For a fourth consecutive year, The Premier Academy has claimed the Royal British Legion shield for its efforts with raising funds through their annual Poppy Appeal.
For many years, the Academy has worked alongside the Royal British Legion to help fundraise through the sale of traditional poppies, pins and slap bands and has been extremely successful in leading the way across schools in Milton Keynes.
This has been recognised by the RBL, who award the school that has raised the most each year with a special shield award.
The Academy was delighted to learn that it had claimed top spot in the city for a fourth year in a row, first winning the shield for fundraising efforts in 2021.
The charity recently visited the Academy to present the shield, with over £640 raised during the poppy appeal in November.
Children representatives were given the opportunity to ask Les and Linda, the members of the Royal British Legion, questions, including:
What do you do with the money raised from the poppy appeal?
What age were you when you joined the army?
Can girls do job in the services?
Do you enjoy being able to raise money and help people?
The Royal British Legion were delighted with their visit to the Academy, with Linda commenting:
“Les and I really enjoyed our visit to TPA today. The class were very welcoming and asked lots of interesting and pertinent questions about Les’ time in the Forces, The Royal British Legion and my husband’s connection to the school. Thank you again for a very enjoyable visit.”
The Head Boy and Girl at the Academy had the following to say:
“We were very happy to meet Linda and Les who were from the Royal British Legion (RBL) We enjoyed speaking to Les about his time in the army and asked many questions.”
“We were also interested in Linda’s connection to the school when her husband used to volunteer and help do building work. In total we raised an amazing £640.03 – the most amount of money across all the schools in Milton Keynes.”
