The Premier Academy Where Teaching Is A Work Of Heart!

Year 5s experience life in the fast lane with Red Bull Racing’s STEMx

It’s not every day that children get to change a tyre like a Formula 1 pit crew, but that’s exactly what Year 5 children experienced when Red Bull Racing’s STEMx came to the Premier Academy this Learning Block.

Described as an innovative learning programme designed to ignite young minds with the excitement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), Red Bull Racing’s STEMx came to the Premier Academy to introduce Year 5 children to the world of Formula 1.

The children took part in a variety of exciting workshops, including building their own model of a Formula 1 car, coding a car to move around a track and even getting a hands-on experience of how tyre changes are made in pitstops.

A number of real pieces of F1 equipment were on hand for the children to see, including two of four-time World Champion Max Verstappen’s helmets, a Red Bull Racing racesuit, a pair of racing gloves, and even a real, full-sized Pirelli tyre.

It was a fun-filled experience for all involved and the children were more than happy to share what they enjoyed about the day.

The children said:

“I really liked that they let you hold the big wheel that they use during the F1 races. It was a lot lighter than I expected.”

“I enjoyed the coding activity and how we got to programme it to go round the Silverstone or Monaco racetrack.”

“My favourite part of the session was when we got to build an F1 race car out of card and then we got to race them. They then put all our times on a leaderboard.”

“Everything was good, I couldn’t pick a favourite part.”

“My favourite part was the Pit stop because it made us feel like real mechanics.”
