Year 1’s Brilliant Adventure to the Central Milton Keynes Children’s Library

Year 1 enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Children’s Library in Central Milton Keynes, where they discovered that a library is so much more than just a building full of books.

Upon arrival, the children were welcomed by the friendly library team, who introduced them to the amazing range of things the library offers. The pupils were fascinated to learn just how many thousands of books live there — shelves and shelves full of stories, facts, adventures, and ideas waiting to be explored!

The children learned how to use the library properly, from borrowing books and returning them, to looking after them so everyone can enjoy reading.

They also talked about the many different ways people can experience books. The library team showed them stories told through Braille, books written in lots of different languages, audio books that you can listen to, picture books for early readers, and both fiction and non-fiction titles for every interest.

After their introduction, Year 1 had the chance to explore the children’s section for themselves. There were excited whispers, enthusiastic page-turning, and plenty of “Look at this!” moments as they discovered new favourites and hunted for firm favourites they already have.

The visit finished beautifully with an exciting story time, where the children listened to a selection of books read aloud — the perfect end to a trip spent celebrating the joy of reading.

Year 1 left feeling inspired, informed, and eager to return. A huge thank you to the Central Milton Keynes Library for helping to grow our young readers’ love of books!

The library offers story times and Lego / Duplo sessions that are free to attend. Please see below for details.
