This year started with a BANG in Year 1! Both 1NS and 1FF made their teachers and parents/carers very proud when they performed on stage in their class assemblies. We look forward to 1EK’s assembly next!
J (1NS) –
I was so excited to go on the stage. It was the first time and I had great fun.
T (1FF) –
I saw my Mummy in the audience and I gave her a big smile. I said my lines loud and proud!
Last Learning Block the children’s learning was focused on the topic ‘Wildlife Wonders.’ The children enjoyed learning about Africa and the Arctic (building on knowledge from previous learning in Reception) and comparing the climate and animals that live there. In English, the children have been looking at stories from other cultures, with a specific focus on ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and ‘Handa’s Red Hen’ which are both based in Africa. They acted out the stories and developed their comprehension and writing skills. Following on from this, they created their own narrative, writing an alternative story for ‘Handa’s Red Hen’. In Art, the children enjoyed using both chalk and paint to create African sunset landscapes.
In Maths, the children have been developing their fluency, looking at the value of numbers to 100 and using this understanding to order numbers. They have also learnt a range of strategies to support their ability to add and subtract numbers.
D (1NS) –
I liked to look at the different places on the world map.
L (1FF) –
We used weighing scales when doing balanced equations. It was fun, I enjoyed putting numicon on it.
D (1EK) –
I liked the arctic puppets, I liked being the polar bear because he kept the cubs warm.
A (1EK) –
I enjoyed learning about Handa’s Surprise and Handa’s Hen, I liked both of the stories.
