Since January, the children in Year 6 have been studying Ancient Egyptians. The children have had the opportunity to use their knowledge to write different text types, including formal letters, debates and newspaper reports. They have learned about different perspectives on historical issues and events in Ancient Egyptian society including how they lived, as well as Ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses.
Linked to this, in our Art lessons, the children have created and completed the sketches of their made-up mythical creatures.
In Science, the children have studied evolution and inheritance, in which they learned how living things have changed over time. They have learned how offspring can inherit characteristics from their parents, but they are not identical to them. They can now identify adaptations which make animals and plants well-suited to their environments and they have studied Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution.
Year 6 participated in a six-week MoreLife School workshop in January and February, supporting PSHE’s core theme of health and wellbeing. The children enjoyed the interactive learning opportunities.
On Monday, 13 February, 6SL participated in a Ukrainian cultural workshop. During this workshop, the children drew and discussed something special: a teddy, a pet, a person etc. They had to describe why this was important to them critically. The children were introduced to a Ukrainian book and had to work together to decipher and re-order the Ukrainian words to match the English translation. The children were engaged and thoroughly enjoyed being part of this workshop.
This learning block, the children will continue to study the topic of ‘Light’. They will learn about the way in which light travels and will investigate shadows. Keep posted for more updates.
