This Learning Block, Year 2 children from the Academy travelled to the library in Central Milton Keynes to learn all about libraries and how they work.
The children had a talk with a librarian and learnt some facts about the library, such as how many books were in the library and that anyone can sign up to the library. From a one-day-old baby to someone more than 100-years-old, anyone can sign up.
The children were then able to explore the library and learn how to find the books they wanted using the computers. They also learned how books are separated into fiction by authors names and non-fiction by categories.
After exploring for a while, the children came back together to finish with another story and share the books they found.
The children had a wonderful, enlightening experience and were kind enough to share comments on the trip:
“It was huge and we got to read lots of books. I really enjoyed the pop up books.”
“I learnt about Greeks in a non-fiction book.”
“I saw one of the robotic starships that deliver books to people’s houses. In the future I want books to be delivered to me by a starship when I order from the library.”
“We had fun and listened to the librarian talk about the library. Then she read us all a story.”
“The librarian taught us lots of things. You can be 1 day old to join the library.”
“There are 40,000 books in the children’s library and 100,000 in the whole library! You can even borrow a ukulele from the there.”
