With the school year in full swing, children in Year 1 have enjoyed attending their very first trip!
Classes in Year 1 travelled to Campbell Park to experience a Nocturnal Animal Talk with The Parks Trust, where they discussed where different nocturnal animals live.
As part of the trip, the children learned about different animals, their diets, features and even some unusual facts about each one. For example, did you know that badgers are very tidy, foxes have a good memory and bats use their hearing to find their prey!
The children then hunted for various nocturnal animal props around the park and they completed activities related to each specific animal, where they learned even more about them.
The children enjoyed this memorable trip, which was a great introduction to unique animals and links well with the Wildlife Wonders topic coming up later in the school year!
Some of the Year 1 children were kind enough to comment on their experiences.
They said:
LG –
“I spotted an owl in the tree. Did you know owls have different colour eyes and come out at different times of the night.”
O –
“It was fun playing the bat game. They only use their ears to catch their food.”
A –
“My team made a circle bed for the badger using lots of leaves and twigs. I wonder if a real badger will use it tonight.”
M –
“We learnt about all the animals that are nocturnal but we couldn’t find any real ones on our trip because they were in their homes asleep.”
