Waddesdon Manor Christmas Art Project

In December, all year groups took part in the Waddesdon Manor Art Project ‘What makes them unique’.

Waddesdon Manor was given permission to use the book ‘The Tree That’s Meant to Be’ by Yuval Zommer, which tells the story of a little fir tree that is too small and too imperfect to be chosen at Christmas time, but being left alone in the forest brings more rewards than the tree could ever have hoped for.

This is a charming and classic-feeling Christmas book with a heartfelt message about love and embracing what makes us different.

The children were asked to think about what makes them unique and they each came up with ideas such as my family, the colour of my eyes, my parents, and my love of maths.

Each child’s response was then written down and sent to the Learning Team at Waddesdon Manor, where their uniqueness was written on specially made ‘wonky’ metal trees. The trees were displayed on a pagoda at the entrance of Miss Alice’s Drive, Woodland Walk, at Waddesdon Manor for all to see.

K, one of the children who participated in the project, commented:

I loved the story; it made me feel good about myself.
