Wednesday 29th January was the official start of Lunar New Year and children across the Academy celebrated in style.
Also called Chinese New Year, the day starts a 15-day celebration called Spring Festival, which culminates this week, on Wednesday 12th February, with the ever-popular Lantern Festival.
Lunar New Year is celebrated by millions across the world, including people from China, Singapore and even Malaysia, and has become a popular celebration in the United Kingdom as well.
TPA children enjoyed a variety of activities to welcome in the Year of the Snake, including learning the story of the Chinese Zodiac, learning some simple Chinese expressions, making their own red envelopes, crafting lucky money cats and completing a range of snake-themed art work.
An assembly was also held to inform the children about the festival and common traditions that are observed every year.
The children had an extremely enjoyable time and provided some comments on their experiences:
“It was great, I loved making my own lucky cat!”
“I made a red envelope and made some fake money to put inside it!”
“2025 is Year of the Snake. I was born in Year of the Monkey!”
新年快乐!恭喜发财!
