During Learning Block 5, the children in Year 4 enjoyed a trip to the Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park, which linked nicely to their topic of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
The children had a talk on the processes and the by-products/products produced before donning their hi-vis jackets and yellow hard hats to go on a tour of the facility.
They were able to see where the rubbish was collected (and smell it too!) and were even able to see where the large claws rotated the waste to keep it from overheating before depositing it down larger shoots in order to be processed.
The children had a thoroughly enjoyable experience (albeit a loud one!) and were kind enough to share some comments on the day.
J commented,
“My favourite part was the tour. We learned how to dispose/recycle waste.”
Y also added,
“We all learnt a lot about how they burn rubbish to make it into electricity. Overall we all enjoyed it.”
